Helping To Keep Your Building Projects on Track

Greetings from the Building Department! Our office is here to provide you with information regarding any building questions as they relate to safety, structural integrity, and code requirements.

We also check prospective contractors for proper licensing with the Department of Consumer Protection and Workmen's Comp insurance before issuing a permit. Code Officials play a major role in ensuring that all commercial, residential, public assembly and other buildings within the Town of Burlington are constructed in accordance with the provisions of the State Building Code. These provisions address structural stability, fire safety, adequate means of egress (exits), sanitation, safe wiring, and more. It is a code official's responsibility to protect public health, safety, and welfare in relationship to the "built" environment through effective code enforcement. Permits are $10.26 per $1,000 of estimated labor and material costs. Please always round up to nearest 1,000 to get correct amount.

We will also assist you by pulling records on all inspections, permits, plot plans, and most house records. Whatever your next project is, all forms needed can be obtained from the Land Use Office at the Town Hall. The most important thing to remember? Get a building permit before you start! It's the law. Stop by our office during regular hours of operation to meet with the staff or view the Town's website for more information regarding permits fees and forms for various projects. Please click on the Forms & Documents link to the left to see all available resources and documents.
