Animal Control Office

The Animal Control Officer is in the office Monday-Thursday 8:00-4:00pm, and Friday from 8:00-12:30. If you would like to see the ACO, please call ahead to be sure that she is not out of the office on a service call.

The Burlington & Canton Animal Control Department enforces all State laws and Town ordinances relating to animals.

The department handles calls regarding roaming dog(s), nuisance barking, animal bites/attacks, unreasonable tethering or confining of a dog, validation of current rabies vaccination, licensing laws, and conducts routine patrols.

All emergency calls are investigated, such as reports of animal cruelty, injured dog or cat, injured/distressed wildlife, and situations involving possible rabid animal exposure to humans or domestic animals. 

Verbal warnings, written warnings or infractions may be issued pursuant to Chapter 435 of the Connecticut General Statutes.

The Animal Control Officer maintains and runs the animal shelter and cares for all impounded stray/lost animals until redeemed by owner. Adoptable animals are available to meet by appointment only, after adoption applications are received and reviewed by the ACO.
