Charter/Ordinance Committees

The Town of Burlington has a set of Ordinances that were originally developed prior to 1974 and have been amended in 1978 and 1980. These ordinances cover numerous items from elections, cemeteries to recycling and street numbers. Burlington recently hired a company, General Code, to work with our newly established Ordinance Committee to re-codify our ordinances and bring them up to today’s standards. This process will recommend removal of obsolete ordinances, update existing ones, or propose new ones. After an update has been completed by General Code and the Ordinance Committee, it will be forwarded to the Board of Selectmen for further review. Any changes to our ordinances must be voted on by the residents at a Special Town Meeting or by Referendum.
