Keeping Burlington's roads safe!

Maintaining Burlington's Roads for You

Our eyes are keenly focused on road maintenance and safety for Burlington residents and visitors. In fact, the Burlington Public Works Department is always at work maintaining all the roads, parks and town buildings throughout Burlington. Our active crew is responsible for over 87 miles of roadways, parking lots for all town-owned buildings including 4 fire houses, the library, Thompson Way and commuter parking areas. We also maintain Burlington's 3 recreation complexes, the Rails to Trails system on the Farmington River, the Arch Street pump station and the sewer lines in the Lake Garda section of town.

During the winter months you can be sure that inclement weather conditions will impact our road safety. For this reason, the Burlington Public Works Department is always preparing for the annual winter season -- keeping all roads accessible and safe for anyone traveling on them. Throughout the winter months we require the cooperation and informed assistance of all residents. To help you understand what we do (and, what we need you to do) during snow season, the Burlington Public Works Department has developed a Snow and Ice Control Plan.

The Snowplow damaged my mailbox, what can be done?

The Board of Selectmen establishes the following policy concerning mailboxes: Residents are reminded to adhere to U.S. Postal Service regulations regarding placement of mailboxes; see www.usps.com/manage/know-mailbox-guidelinesIn the event a mailbox or post is physically struck by a snowplow employed by the town, the Town will provide a basic replacement mailbox and post.

A mailbox or post will not be repaired or replaced if damage was caused by the force of snow thrown by plows.

The community is our eyes and we rely on your input all year long. We want to know about any problems or concerns that you see or experience. See a damaged sign? Tell us about it. Pot holes in the roads? Give us a call. Together, we make Burlington a safer place!
