[ARCHIVED] PropertyCheck Fraud Alert

Property Check

The Burlngton Town Clerk's Office is pleased to announce the availability of a property alert notification system for residents.

PropertyCheck is a 24/7 service that helps protect you from potential property fraud by automatically notifying you of any recorded document that affects your property, helping you feel safer about your properties and online security.

WHAT IS PROPERTY FRAUD? Property fraud can occur if someone forges your identity, transfers your property into their name, and records the document. This fraudulent activity can make it appear as if that person owns your home or property - and you may not have any idea that this happened! It is, unfortunately, becoming more prevalent today as cyber criminals exploit every avenue they can to cause harm and steal from everyday citizens.

How does it work?

If a document is recorded that matches the information being monitored by PropertyCheck, the property owner is notified immediately and instantly per their preferred method of communication.

Cott System’s PropertyCheckTM works seamlessly in the background of the Burlington records management RECORDhub software, automatically alerting on an enrolled record if a document with matching name is recorded. Property owners need to opt-in by creating a RECORDhubTM account, create alerts for their name and choose the preference of alerts – email or text message.  “It’s also a good idea to set up multiple alerts based on first, middle and last name variations and your spouse’s name, to be sure that an alert will be triggered in case a recording happens with some kind of slight variation,” says Paul Fetters, the product Implementation Specialist at Cott Systems.

How do I sign up?

(1) Create a FREE account in RECORDhub

(2) Create alerts for matching name(s)

(3) Specify how to be notified in the event of match (text, email, or both).
