Planning & Zoning - For Today & Tomorrow

The Town of Burlington Planning and Zoning Commission works to conduct the development of the town while maintaining the quality of the town - its land and neighborhoods - and enforcing regulations established for development.

The Planning and Zoning Commission implements all adopted zoning regulations for the Town of Burlington and processes all applications and permits as defined in the Planning and Zoning Regulations, State Statues and Executive Orders.

We work closely with Burlington's Zoning Enforcement Officer and Building Official to be sure that all development, structures and uses are in compliance with our regulations, Inland Wetlands and Watercourses regulations and our Health District regulations.

Most applications can be found online in PermitLink. Please read the options on each application to choose which one you are submitting. For example, for a sign permit you should submit a Zoning permit application online and choose the radio button 'Sign'.

If you cannot find an application online for your needs or have questions, please call the Land Use Department at 860-673-6789 x6.

Where to Find Important P&Z News, Notices & Regulations

There is much going on in the world of Planning and Zoning and we share notices for upcoming meeting agendas, meeting minutes, notices of decision and any special notifications as required by our Zoning Regulations, State Zoning Statutes or special orders such as the COVID-19 Executive Orders.

We also have our Zoning Regulations, Zoning Map, Subdivision Regulations and links to our online permitting system including instructions.

All this information is a click away in the appropriate sections of this page!

While it is our hope you can attend all our P&Z Meetings during the year, know you can find all you are looking for right here if you unable to attend.

Our Plans of Conservation and Development (POCD)

Our Planning and Zoning Commission is charged to develop a Plan of Conservation and Development, or POCD, every 10-years by State Statutes.
