Visit Sessions Woods

Sessions Woods is a state property managed by the Department of Environmental Protection's Wildlife Division (DEP-Wildlife Division). Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area (WMA) focuses on conservation education, with facilities to bring school groups, the general public and natural resource professionals from throughout Connecticut and the region to participate in educational programs, demonstrations, and workshops pertaining to wildlife and natural resource management. These facilities include an education center with an exhibit area and a large meeting room, as well as interpretive trails, habitat management demonstration areas, and a backyard wildlife habitat area. For your walking and learning pleasure, Sessions Woods offers a variety of well-kept nature trails, including the Beaver Pond Trail, Deer Sign Trail, and Tree I.D. Trail. Some of the beautiful sights you can expect to see on these trails include a 38-acre wetland with a beaver dam, a 25-foot observation tower, a waterfall, a vernal pool, a bat shelter, and much more!

Sessions Woods WMA offers conservation education programming that uses the expertise of Wildlife Division and other DEP natural resource management staff. Staff may also be available, by appointment, to conduct group educational programs at the Center and to give technical assistance and professional advice to visitors on an individual basis.

The mission of the Friends of Sessions Woods is to facilitate projects and programs that are designed to enhance the value of Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area (WMA) as a resource for education, research and the enjoyment of nature. The Friends of Sessions Woods also provide volunteer support services to the professional staff of Sessions Woods in all aspects of conservation education.
