Burlington Registrar's Office

 

Unlike many countries around the world, U.S. citizens have the unique privilege of a private vote for all elected officials - city, state and federal.  Don't waste your vote, use it.  It is your voice in the political process.  If you are a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older you can vote.  But first, you must register!  Any U.S. citizen 17 years of age may register, providing the citizen reaches 18 years of age on or before November 4, 2009 to be eligible to vote in the Election. 

 

On May 19, 2009 the registrar's will be at Lewis Mills High School during all lunch periods for those students who would like to register to vote. If you can not make that date, then every Tuesday of October, the registrar's will be at Lewis Mills High School from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM. October 21, 2009 they will be there from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM.

In order to be admitted as an elector in Burlington, Connecticut, you must meet the following requirements:

 

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be a bona fide resident of Burlington, Connecticut
  • Must be 18 years of age by Election day
  • Voter's "Bill of Rights"

 

Absentee Voting

 

Any qualified registered voter, if unable to vote in person, may vote by absentee ballot for one of the following reasons:

  • Absences from town during all election hours
  • Illness or physical disability
  • Active service in the United States armed forces
  • Religious tenets, which forbid secular activity on day of election, primary or referendum

 

Applications are available at the Town Clerk's office as well as on the Connecticut Secretary of State's website. where you can also obtain more facts about voting and absentee ballots.
