The Burlington Historical Society exists to instill in the community a sense of pride and interest in its town history, to preserve its history, and keep alive its traditions and heritage.  The Society works to encourage preservation of historic structures and to discover, collect, preserve and make available for scholarly use any printed materials and objects related to the history of the Town of Burlington, Connecticut.

The Society maintains and operates the Elton Tavern in a manner that best exhibits and interprets the historical collections and that best provides educational opportunities related to the history of Burlington.

The Burlington Historical Society also cooperates, supports and encourages Town Officials and other community organizations in preserving Burlington's history.  We sponsor a number of programs and speakers each year illuminating the rich history of our town and its people.  Working in collaboration with the Region 10 school system, we help promote the teaching of local history.  Scholarships are also given out each year.  We also work closely with the Burlington Public Library to acquire and preserve items pertaining to Burlington history.  Maps, diaries, newspaper clippings, and other documents are stored in the Burlington Room and may be used by genealogists and other researchers.
